We have a major piece of historic public art in the center of the
village, a large bronze statue, "Memory" by Cyrus Dallin, an
internationally renowned sculptor. It was given to the town in 1924 and
placed in the historic Central Burying ground as a memorial to WW1
veterans. Another work of Dallin's with which you may be familiar is
"Appeal to the Great Spirit", the mounted Native American chief that
stands in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Our "Memory"statue is quite
wonderful but its placement at the intersection of two main roads in the
village center has led to corrosion of the bronze surface from auto
exhaust. We are told that acid rain is also a factor. Maintenance by a
qualified conservator consisting of careful cleaning and preparation
followed by repatination are needed every few years.

Our reading of the MPPF grant specs seems to us to not cover ongoing
problems of this sort so we are wondering if any of you might know of
grant possibilities that would help with the expense, which is now beyond
our ever-shrinking budget. The town has been supportive in the past to
cover the cost, which is about $7000, but has asked us to see if there
are grants available as all budgets are stretched to the limit.

Thanks for any grant possibilities you may know of.
