There are rumors that the Diocese of Springfield is planning on demolishing the Holy Name of Jesus Church, parish buildings, and school in Chicopee. As the oldest Catholic Church in Western Mass it certainly has regional value, but even though it is in a LHD, Chicopee doesn't have an active Historical Commission or Historic District Commission. If the local community doesn't seem to care if these building are demolish, is there anything to be done to save them? Does anyone know of another example where there was no active commission, but there was an LHD where buildings were threatened with demolition but saved somehow?
