Hello, all,
Is anyone on this listserv familiar with a product called Super-cote,
manufactured by Tex-cote? It sounds like some sort of elastomeric paint.
It's one of those products that claim to last a "lifetime," and hold up
better than regular paint, and generally sounds too good to be true.
Here's some information about the product from the web page of a Conn.
company called Protective Home Coatings:
http://www.phcoatings.com/texcote-process.html
And from the manufacturer's website: http://www.texcote.com/specs.php
I've been asked by someone from a town that's considering using this product
on one of their buildings. I'm concerned there could be potential moisture
problems, although the manufacturer claims the paint is permeable enough to
allow moisture to escape. Also, the prep process described on the
distributor's page makes it sound as though the patching materials and
primer could permanently alter the wood in a way that might make this
product very difficult, if not impossible, to remove, should it fail. Not to
mention that they recommend power washing and/or sandblasting to prep the
surface. The manufacturer's information also sounds as though their products
are designed more for hot climates than New England.
I did some googling, and didn't find too much, so was wondering if anyone
out there had personal experience with this product, or has seen a building
painted with this stuff? I'm feeling kinda leery about it, but don't have
any personal experience to go on.
Thanks!
Michele
