ANNUAL CAPE-WIDE HISTORIC PRESERVATION WORKSHOP
The Annual Cape-Wide Historic Preservation Workshop will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Harwich Community Center, Harwich, MA. The workshop is free, but registration is required. This year's speakers will be Virginia Adams of PAL Inc., David Ottinger of David Ottinger Antique Buildings and Materials, Ian Ellison of Ellison Timberframes, and Jess Phelps of Historic New England. INTRODUCTION TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLANNING WORKSHOP
The Massachusetts Historical Commission will present a workshop entitled, "Introduction to Historic Preservation Planning" in Egremont, Massachusetts on March 29, 2012 at 7pm. The workshop will cover the basic steps of community-wide historic preservation planning including identifying, evaluating and protecting historic resources. Although designed especially for new local historical commissions to understand their responsibilities, the workshop is open to anyone interested in the basic techniques for protecting historic resources in their community. This workshop is hosted by the Egremont Historical Commission. NEW LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS PROPOSED
The towns of Amherst, Bolton, Brookline and Huntington have submitted preliminary study reports for the establishment of a local historic district. For Amherst, Bolton and Huntington, these would be the first local historic districts in the municipality.
NORWELL LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT STUDY COMMITTEE
In Norwell, the Board of Selectmen recently appointed a local historic district study committee. The study committee is now meeting and investigating the feasibility of establishing a local historic district.
HIGHWAY TO THE PAST: THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF BOSTON'S BIG DIG
