[MassHistPres] MA Register but not MACRIS?

This question is discussed on the MACRIS database disclaimer page at http://mhc-macris.net/macrisdisclaimer.htm MACRIS is not definitive on this question.

Among the reasons a property in the State Register of Historic Places or in the Inventory of Historic and Archaeological Assets of the Commonwealth may not "show up" in the MACRIS database:

1) Recent listing not yet entered into MACRIS database.
2) Property is located within State Register historic district or area for which individual property addresses are not on record. This is true for many (often large) early National Register of Historic Places districts for which data sheets listing all properties were not required.
3) Property is located with an Inventory Area - individual property addresses in Areas are often not on record.
4) Address (street name and/or street number) has changed since information was filed with MHC. (Very common - though MHC actively updates this information)
5) Property has multiple addresses - corner property with two street frontages, city block property with four street frontages, street address and assessor's address differ, etc.
6) Archaeological resource - online MACRIS does not include information on archaeological resources. Any listings of State Register archaeological resources do not include location information.

If there is some doubt check with MHC. Keep in mind the differences between the State Register of Historic Places (properties and sites with specified legal national, state or local historic designations), the Inventory of Historic and Archaeological Assets of the Commonwealth (properties and sites for which inventory information is on file with MHC), and MACRIS (the Massachusetts Cultural Resources Information System - MHC's database tool).

Subject: [MassHistPres] MA Register but not MACRIS?

I have what will probably be a silly question to the more Historically indoctrinated of this listserve...

Is it possible for an asset to be on the MA Historical Register but not show up on the MACRIS database?

Very curious to know...

(And very grateful for any help you could give...)

Thanks,
H. LaCortiglia,
Chairman, Georgetown CPC
