ARCHAEOLOGY MONTH ACTIVITIES
October is Massachusetts Archaeology Month and is celebrated with local events organized by museums, local historical societies, libraries and professional and avocational archaeologists. This year's annual celebration will include 88 events taking place in communities across the Commonwealth.  Events include field trips, guided tours, lectures and children's activities. THE CITY OF MEDFORD IS THE NEWEST CLG IN MASSACHUSETTS
The City of Medford has been approved as a Certified Local Government in Massachusetts.  In approving the application, both the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the National Park Service recognized the work of the Medford Historical Commission and Medford Historic District Commission in their local historic preservation programs.  Medford will now be eligible to compete for matching grants through the annual survey and planning grant program in the CLG category.  There are now 20 Certified Local Governments in Massachusetts.  These are Bedford, Boston, Brookline, Danvers, Eastham, Falmouth, Grafton, Hingham, Lexington, Lowell, Medfield, Medford, Methuen, New Bedford, Newton, Plymouth, Quincy, Salem, Somerville and Worcester.

COMMUNITY PRESERVATION ACT CONFERENCE
The Community Preservation Coalition is holding a one-day regional conference on the Community Preservation Act on Saturday, December 1st in Chelmsford.  The conference will include workshops, presentations, and round-table discussions on various aspects of the Community Preservation Act.  Registration is currently open for communities in the northeast region of Massachusetts, with registration open to other Community Preservation Act communities on October 1, space permitting.
