as much as i abhor the use of pvc products, i appreciate the comments on the product to date and see their merit...mahogany and spanish cedar will stand the test of time if properly maintained but those species are not always in the budget of homeowners who endeavor to maintain the historic character of their home/building...charles, cardboard? you are being kind!

The Cambridge Historical Commission has adopted a policy in historic districts of allowing cellular PVC in place of ground-contact lumber (like bottom step risers and porch skirt boards) and rooftop balustrades (if traditional profiles are duplicated). Most lumber commonly available today has approximately the permanence of cardboard in these situations, and we do not wish to make homeowners replace these elements more frequently than necessary.

Has anyone had experience with use of Azek-cellular PVC to "replicate" architectural details on a historic building? And is such acceptable for a tax-credit project?
Any input would be most appreciated.
