Higgins Armory Museum

The iconic steel and glass Higgins Armory Museum building, 100 Barber Ave.
in Worcester, will soon be on the market for sale and reuse. The building is
listed on the National Register, making it eligible for both the MA and
federal historic preservation tax credit programs. The property also
includes an adjacent 4.5 acre parcel, much of which is currently used as
parking.

In order to find the best new owner and reuse that will preserve as much of
the building's distinctive fabric as possible, the Museum requests input and
suggestions from listserv members. Evaluation factors for the RFP currently
are (with no predetermined priority):

i. Consideration for reuse of the existing building

ii. Financial Return

iii. Most immediate transaction

iv. Consideration for honoring the historic features of the building

v. Enhancement to the surrounding community

The Museum also seeks recommendations for potential owners/developers and
ideas for how to market the building to the broadest base.

The deadline for Higgins Armory to develop the RFP is the end of December,
so please submit your thoughts toward the creative reuse
