Preservation and Sustainability Symposium: New Innovations in Policy in the
U.S. and Abroad

When: Friday, October 25, 2013; 1:00 – 5:30 PM (reception to follow)

Where: University of Massachusetts Amherst, Gordon Hall, Room 303

 

Program

In this, the third symposium on how preservation is integral to designing
sustainable buildings and communities, we will focus on the latest policies,
laws, regulations, and incentives, and hear from a panel of local and
international experts in the field about prospects for the future.

 

Speakers will include:

 

Marc Sternick, AIA, LEED AP, Vice President and Senior Project Architect of
Dietz & Company Architects, Inc., presenting on "Sustainable Buildings: The
State of the Art"

 

David Fixler, FAIA, LEEP AP, Historic Preservation Expert at Einhorn Yaffee
Prescott, presenting on "The Sustainable Mean-Balancing Performance and
Conservation in Upgrading Mid-20th Century Buildings"

 

Jaime Rodríguez, Architect, Office of the Historian, Havana, Cuba,
presenting on “Preserving Havana, Cuba”

 

Sergio Kiernan, Journalist and Preservation Advocate, Architecture Editor
for Pagina 12, Buenos Aires, Argentina presenting on "Policies and Practices
of Sustainability in Buenos Aires' Nascent Preservation" 

 

Andreas Salgo, Planner and Preservationist, Bavarian Department of Castles,
Gardens and Lakes, Nurnberg Germany, speaking on "Historic Monument
Preservation Versus Energy Efficiency in Bavaria"
