Historic Newton<http://historicnewton.org/> is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Newton Preservation Awards. The awards, a collaboration between Historic Newton and the Newton Historical Commission, recognize projects that feature the preservation of Newton's historic buildings and landscape, promote awareness of the city's historic fabric, and the people who dedicate themselves to the practice of historic preservation in the city of Newton. Awards may be presented to architects, designers, contractors, property managers, craftspeople, and other stewards of historic preservation from any locale if they have completed or contributed to exemplary historic preservation work in the city of Newton.
Project Requirements and Eligibility
* All nominations must be received no later than Friday, September 19, 2014.
* All projects must be located in Newton, Massachusetts.
* All architectural projects must have been completed between September 1, 2012 and August 31, 2014. Nominations in all other categories may be in progress or continuing projects.
* Photographs of completed architectural projects are mandatory. "Before" photos are highly encouraged.
* Nominations submitted in previous years that did not receive awards may be revised and resubmitted.
Nominations Must Include
* A fully completed nomination form.
* Statement of achievement. For properties, the statement should describe in detail: the historical significance of the nominated resource; the elements of the preservation project that make this a deserving project; the project objectives, how they were met, and the materials used. For individuals, the statement should describe in detail the individual's achievements and contributions to historic preservation in Newton.
* Photographs submitted by mail or email.
* List of contributors, including architects, contractors, crafts people, consultants, and other professionals who significantly contributed to the project.
* Letters of support are optional.
Historic Newton encourages inquiry and exploration of Newton's history within the broad context of American history. Historic Newton oversees the Jackson Homestead and Museum, Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds, and Newton's Historic Burying Grounds. The organization collects, preserves, and exhibits historical artifacts and documents, and presents educational programs that serve the diverse population of Newton and the Greater Boston region.
