As one who worked with the Amherst Historical Commission on the Amherst Community History Mural overlooking West Cemetery, I second Max's recommendation of and muralist David Fichter, who worked with community volunteers for much of the mural. The resulting product is amazing.

I have two strong recommendations:
Vitek Kruta, based in Holyoke: http://www.vitekkruta.com
Or David Fichter, based in Cambridge. David did the mural in the West Cemetery in Amherst, where Emily Dickinson is buried. http://davidfichter.net
