[MassHistPres] Tercentenary Marker for Princeton

Some time ago, a discussion was held regarding the Tercentenary markers that were placed around the state in the 1930’s by the Massachusetts Bay Tercentenary Commission. The Town of Princeton had such a marker. Over many decades the paint had worn off and it was badly rusted, as were all the other Tercentenary markers.  The Princeton Historical Commission took action. With the help of Commissioner Mickey Splaine, who works for Mass DOT, and the students at Worcester Technical High School, Princeton’s marker was restored. Teacher and Princeton resident Rick Torres and his students followed strict historical quality specifications and did an excellent job in restoring the marker to its original condition, at no cost to Princeton. Special thanks go to shop teacher Larry Collins, Nal’s Paint of Worcester, and the Princeton Highway Department for the initial removal and follow-up installation of the restored marker. Our Commission is extremely proud of this cooperative achievement.

Driving along Route 140 through Princeton you can see the marker near the Redemption Rock site, not far from the Princeton/Westminster line. The newly restored marker commemorates the spot where Mary Rowlandson was redeemed from captivity under King Phillip.
