[MassHistPres] Western MA Historical Commission Coalition Meeting - July 16th

Hello all - 

 

The next meeting of the Western Massachusetts Historical Commission
Coalition will be Wednesday, July 16th, at 10am.  The meeting is being
hosted by the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission and the Pittsfield
Historical Commission, and will be held at the Berkshire Athenaeum,
Pittsfield's Public Library, 1 Wendell Ave, Pittsfield, MA 01201.

 

Attached is an agenda for the meeting, and directions to the Athenaeum.
Our topic will be the Community Preservation Act.  We are fortunate to
have Stuart Saginor, Executive Director of the Community Preservation
Commission, giving a presentation and answering questions.

You will also notice that we will be having an optional tour at the end
of the meeting.  One block away from the Berkshire Athenaeum, where the
meeting is being held, stands the former Berkshire Athenaeum. Built in
1876, the building is a unique Victorian Gothic structure prominently
featured on Pittsfield's historic Park Square. The building is in the
middle of an extensive preservation effort, funded by the state.
Allegrone Construction, the project manager, has agreed to give two
short tours of the site after the Coalition meeting, explaining their
work to stabilize the stone work on the front facade. Given safety
concerns and regulations, no more than 10 people can go on a tour, but
there will be two back-to-back 15 minute tours. Space is limited, and on
a first-come, first-served basis. Please let us know if you're
interested when you sign into the meeting.
