[MassHistPres] Western MA Historical Commission Coalition - upcoming dates

Hello all - 

 

I'd like to let you know about some upcoming dates and topics for future
meetings of the Western Massachusetts Historical Commission Coalition.
Based on feedback obtained at our first meeting in December 2013, we
have put together a schedule of events for 2014, which includes three
proposed meetings:  

 

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Host: The Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG)

Topic: Promoting Local History   (Session to tentatively include
building awareness of your local historic commission and local historic
districts, creative ways to promote local history, and examples of
successful signage, websites, and brochures)

 

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Host: Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC)

Topic: Community Preservation Act  (Session to tentatively include
implementing the Community Preservation Act (CPA), restrictions and
allowances under the law, and examples of projects that have
successfully leveraged CPA funds for historic preservation)

 

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Host: Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC)

Topic: Historic Preservation With or Without a Local Historic District
(Session to tentatively include a discussions of the benefits of local
historic districts, how to create a local or National Register historic
district, single building districts, conducting inventories in Western
Massachusetts, and how to navigate the local government process in the
absence of a local historic district.)

 

 

You can expect an official invitation to our April meeting soon, with a
more complete agenda and location for the meeting.    Please feel free
to share this information with other members of your organizations that
might be interested in these topics.  If you have other suggestions for
