There has been some concern about temporary signs placed in the historic
district - the one in question now is a once-a-week sign for a local
Farmers' Market and in place for 24 hours each week (3 months in summer and
3 in winter). Within the District only one sign is placed on the town
green. The Board of Selectmen has granted permission to place these small
temporary signs in various places around town for the 24 hour-period weekly.
The question is: how should the HDC handle this? Some have questioned (a)
process - should they apply for a Certificate and (b) decision - whether
such signs should be allowed at all in an HD.
Can any of HDC members advise about how you have or would handle this - Do
you have a temporary sign policy? Would you allow or not?
Thanks for any advice you can give.
