The Massachusetts Historical Commission is developing a new guidebook to assist local historical commissions in effectively utilizing demolition delay.
The guidebook is a follow-up to the MHC Workshop, Administering Demolition Delay Bylaws and Ordinances, developed in 2015. It will cover many of the same topics such as the strengths and challenges of demolition delay bylaws, how best to effectively utilize a demolition delay bylaw and the necessary sections and wording of a well-crafted bylaw.
The guidebook will also include best practices, case studies and the MHC sample demolition delay bylaw.
The case studies to be included in the guidebook will not be limited to just success stories. Rather, each case study is meant to provide useful guidance for local historical commissions no matter what the outcome was. If you believe that your commission has a case study that would be useful for other commissions around the state to learn about, please contact Christopher.skelly at state.ma.us<mailto:Christopher.skelly at state.ma.us>.
