According to the Town of Hingham's Veterans Services Department, white is the appropriate color for a flagpole.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Flagpole color

The Abington Historical Commission was approached by a resident at our last meeting about his purposed plan to install a flagpole/flag on Island Grove, our National Register of Historic Places since 2002.
The flagpole color became an issue. His plan includes a bronze color finish on the flagpole. The AHC research indicated a proper respectful white color prevails in the local, state and national governmental levels. National Register pieces and National cemeteries throughout the USA have white flagpoles. Dose the historic community know of any bronze colored flagpoles located on any of the places the AHC has mentioned. Are there specific guidelines to the color of the flagpole? The AHC has concerns to the his bronze color preference as not being suitable at all for our National site.
Any information is welcomed and appreciated.

Chair of the Abington Historical Commission
