Hello Everyone,

We have finally completed the restoration of our Holmes School No2, a one
room schoolhouse still owned by the Town of North Attleborough! The
interior depicts the time period when this school and other one room
schoolhouses in town closed , that is the school year 1951-52. We have
many of the original furnishing and are in the process of working with the
school dept. to get the third graders to visit this school on their tour of
the historical buildings in town.

The lesson plan for the third graders will focus on the 4 R's. Reading,
Writing, Arithmetic and Recreation. Questions !! Do any of you historians
out there have any documents, posters, etc. on the Palmer Method of Writing
that we could view, copy, etc.?? I remember the Palmer Method lettering
posters above the blackboards when I was a child and would love to find some
or be able to make some.

We also have the original floor standing abacus and need to figure out how
it was really used in the classroom.

We were able to have a paint analysis completed to determine the last
original colors used which are the greens and yellows so typical of that
era.

Only took us about 10 years to pull this off but it is so gratifying that
the town, former students and MHC Preservation Projects funding made this
all possible!

Ann
