In 1960, the Lynnfield HIstorical Society was charged with all restoration,
conservation, and maintenance of our Meeting House built in 1714.I have
seen an agreement letter to that effect but nothing specifically legal. The
town takes no responsibility for the building (ironic as it is pictured on
the town seal and all town correspondence etc.).Since it is a town owned
structure the Society would be considered tenants at will although the
Society pays no rent to the town.
The town pays a small fee for each use of the building, necessary to pay
for the utilities. The Meeting House is available for rentals and hosts 20
or more events per month and growing. This, plus members dues and wise
investments support the upkeep of this historic structure.Rentals are
managed by volunteer members of the Society.
