Supported with CPA funds, the late-19th century Town Hall in Hanover, MA is
about to go exterior restoration. We had hoped to find the original
clapboards under the vinyl siding that was apparently installed in the late
1980's. However, exploratory work revealed much newer siding (from the
1970's) under the vinyl siding. The project architect now is suggesting we
consider installation Boral TruExterior Siding rather than stripping and
retaning the existing wood clapboards.
Has anyone had experience with this product? (It will be hard to make a
case for wood clapboards based on authenticity or esthetics with several of
the others who will have a say in the decision; I understand those
positions, but they won't be very persuasive in this case.) One of my
concerns is that this product it's quite new and therefore not field-tested
for a very long time. Observations or experience with this product
appreciated!
