The North Attleborough Historical Commission is working with our Board of
Selectmen to research the process to allow a non-profit to use a town owned
historic farm for community gardens. Four years ago our historical
commission began a community garden project on our National Register Listed
Codding Farm to draw attention to the underutilized house, barn and 3.75
acres that were divided off from a larger piece of property purchased by the
town. The project has been very successful and now the Hist. Com . would
like to turn this community garden project over to the community gardeners
who would form a non-profit.
Our Board of Selectmen have asked us to provide examples of similar projects
in other towns where non-profits use historical town owned properties.
Would love to know of any other communities who may have such an agreement
in their town. Is a town meeting article to create this needed? Can any of
you provide wording such an article that passed?
Thank You!
