It’s also worth noting that low-e can be installed in the insulating glass unit in a replacement sash in two different ways with different effects;. It can be optimized to allow solar gains in and retain heat for winter efficiency or to keep solar gains out for air conditioning efficiency. A lot of replacement sash, including I understand some sold here, is of the second kind, because in much of the country, air conditioning comfort and cost is the greater issue.

Some double glaze windows are permitted on a case by case basis. The guidelines are here... http://www.salem.com/sites/salemma/files/uploads/guidelines.pdf. The Commission's webpage also has some links to specific information on windows and energy efficiency/weatherization... http://www.salem.com/historical-commission/pages/useful-links, although I don't know if any of these specifically discuss Low-e.

If you don't allow them, what do you recommend/require that property owners doe in lieu of them? What, if any, have been the repercussions from the community?
