Here's a research guide I wrote a while ago. Registry of Deeds' online
records are much deeper now and, sometimes, can get you back a century.
Your local reference librarians can direct you to the Walpole editions of
the annual town reports, street lists of residents, "true lists" of voters,
and historical atlases that I cite specifically for Arlington:

PS: Many property databases I know use a nice, round "1900" date as a
placeholder for "earlier than when we started issuing building permits".
