Register now for Historic New England's upcoming Leading Locally workshops on Preservation Restrictions (May 11), Caring for Non-Profit Historic Properties (May 25), and Design Review Concepts (June 1).
Attendees of this series, previously offered in the Boston region and in western Massachusetts, have found the day-long workshops particularly informative. We invite preservation advocates in southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape to join preservation professionals from Historic New England, the Massachusetts Historical Commission, and other organizations for an in-depth review of management issues related to local preservation. Each workshop will provide for audience discussion around current challenges.
Cost per workshop: $20, $15 Historic New England members.

Introduction to Preservation Restrictions: Establishing and Administering for Local Preservation

Preservation restrictions are an important tool for municipalities, especially in communities that use Community
Preservation Act funds. This workshop, the first of three Leading Locally workshops, covers the development
and monitoring of preservation restrictions held at the local level. Hear case-study examples from towns using
restrictions and learn about issues related to holding and enforcing preservation restrictions. Gain confidence by
learning from professionals who have experience working with these restrictions.

Caring for Municipal, Museum, and other Non-Profit Historic Properties

Explore funding mechanisms, building regulations that affect historic properties, and more. Learn from preservation
professionals who manage historic sites and make preservation treatment decisions, including reviews of condition
assessments, cyclical maintenance, disaster preparedness, and working with contractors.

Design Review Concepts, Cases and Issues
Friday, June 1, 2018, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Barnstable Town Hall, Hearing Room, 367 Main Street, Hyannis, Mass.
At this workshop, explore issues in design review and management of local
historic districts. Using case-study examples and mock hearings, learn how
to address challenging issues in historic districts. Case studies will draw from
actual applications; attendees are encouraged to submit examples from their
own districts for group discussion and feedback.
