Gilded Innovation: Building Materials and Technology at the Eustis Estate, January 25, 2019, 8:30 AM - 4 PM.
Historic New England is pleased to announce a day-long workshop on the innovative building materials and technologies used at the 1878 Eustis Estate, 1424 Canton Avenue, Milton, Mass., an early work of noted architect William Ralph Emerson. This event is presented with the generous support of the Association for Preservation Technology - Northeast Chapter.
Building materials and technology scholars will lecture on the mansion's terracotta and carved brick interior ornament, polychrome masonry exterior, surviving gas generation plant, and early wind-powered electrical system. Presentations take place in the Eustis mansion with on-site access to the electrical power house (weather permitting).
