I have a question about lead paint issues in regard to non-profit
historic house museums. Are there any legal concerns that these types
of museums should be aware of in regard to the probable existence of
lead paint on both the exterior and interior of a structure? As
compared to residential properties, are historic house museums
required to follow the mandates of the MA lead paint law? In this
instance, I know of an historic house museum in the Boston area where
the exterior paint is deteriorating. Visitors on the grounds have
noted this and have concerns for their children. The exterior of the
house has been painted at least three times since 1978, when use of
lead-based paint was outlawed.
Thanks in advance for your input on this important concern!
