[MassHistPres] Tour Day Event: UMass Amherst + Brutalism - Origins, Evolution, and Future - Saturday, October 20th

Join DOCOMOMO US/NEW ENGLAND and the UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS
AMHERST'S HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROGRAM for a tour of a commonly
overlooked Post-War campus featuring prominent Modern architecture
designs by Kevin Roche, Marcel Breuer, among others. Participants are
encouraged to add their voice and express their thoughts on the
evolution of the Brutalist structures on campus in an open discussion
following the tour. Following the discussion, there will be a public
showing of the movie Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect 

Speakers will include Professor TIMOTHY ROHAN, Professor CARL FIOCCHI,
Professor MARGARET VICKERY, and Docomomo US/New England Co-President
DAVID FIXLER FAIA FAPT LEED

The tour portion of this event will include 2 LU | HSW CREDITS and the
 film portion of the event will include a bonus 1.5 LU CREDITS

The film event is sponsored by Western Mass AIA and the Five Colleges
Architectural Studies Program as part of their 2018 Film Series. The 
showing will be free and open to the public. No registration required. 

All event activities are free to students, UMass Amherst faculty and
staff 
General Tickets for the tour/discussion portion of the event will be 
sold or $25.

Itinerary:
campus tour from 1:00 - 3:00 pm 
break/refreshments from 3:00 - 3:30 pm
discussion from 3:30 - 4:30 pm
film showing from 4:30 - 6:00 pm

The tour will start at the John W. Olver Design Building located at
551 N Pleasant St, Amherst, MA 01003
Free parking will be available behind the building in the adjacent lot.

Break/refreshments, discussion, and the film showing will also take
place in the Design Building atrium/lecture hall following the tour

This event is funded in partnership with the UMass Amherst Architecture
Department, UMass Amherst Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning
Department, and the UMass Amherst History of Art + Architecture
Department
