If you are not already familiar with these documents, they can help provide a little historical context for you that may help as you continue to communicate your concerns re the proposed changes in character:

Subject: [MassHistPres] Changes made within a NHRD

We have an organization that has submitted plans to "upgrade" our Upper Green, Newbury, MA. This Green is part of our NHRD. They are planning to put stone pathways encircling large parts of the Green, 3 bronze cows, lighting, and change the current positioning of our 1800's baseball field. They are also planning to remove all the trees currently around the Green and replace them with Zelkova trees (Japanese elms). Currently, we have several different species. The NHC has reviewed plans and send letters to the BOS and the Town Administrator pinpointing our reservations on many of these changes. This Green was settled c.1640.

Can anyone help with knowledge of how much change of character, etc. will cause a problem for our district? I need to have information on this prior to a Wed noon deadline (01/16/19). We are very concerned about these changes.

Thank you, Janice Forrest
