As some may recall, ca. 2004-09 there was a major struggle to save HHR’s home. For those who do not know the house, it is is one of a small set of early 19th C Brookline "Jamaica Planter’s” houses with tall porches. It was not designed by HHR, although there is an hHR staircase and his bedroom is (or was when last I saw it) fitted with cork boards for pinning up drawings and rings in the ceiling for hoisting his bulk out of bed, as he was dying of Bright’'s disease. The impression of his bed is also in the cork floor. The house has a two story wing on one side which contain’s HHR’s bedroom and an expansive 1 story wing on the other side onto which originally the famous studio was attached.

The house is owned together with the houses on either side. On the left is a Tech-built on the site of the former studio wing. On the right is a large property with a ca. 1800 house that has been sort of restored. It is that house, at 222 Warren St,. that is formally on the market. Bbut reportedly the HHR house may be separately available. The HHR house has an odd preservation easement on it. The house is in poor shape and had a wing of uncertain age removed from the back
