Good Morning, Anne,
In Berkley, ab out 5 years ago, the Historical Society was granted a lease by the town Selectmen, to occupy the 1849 Old Town Hall. The Historical Society, has now totally renovated the building from replacing rotten sills to taking out the dropped ceiling and removing multilayer of linoleum to restore back to the original wooden floor.
The Historical Commission obtained private grants totalling close to $60,000; and an additional $100,000 endowment grant. The interest off the endowment grant and other fund raisers allows the Historical Society to pay for the upkeep of the building (also heat, electricity, etc). So now off the Berkley taxpayer support.
The building now is the Berkley Historical Museum and houses (maybe too much) historical artifacts donated to the Society.
You can see more about the project at https://www.berkleyhistorical.org/?fbclid=IwAR0PS0jX6ER6PmvJAqn4ZogshWtw-NEyjbmvwilZ35ye2QWoylzVT06bjsI <https://www.berkleyhistorical.org/?fbclid=IwAR0PS0jX6ER6PmvJAqn4ZogshWtw-NEyjbmvwilZ35ye2QWoylzVT06bjsI>
And see some of the before/after pictures at https://www.berkleyhistorical.org/projects <https://www.berkleyhistorical.org/projects>
From removing all that ugly electrical wiring from the front of the building to restoring it back to the 1849 original
For more information, you can contact me and I will put you in touch with the Leader of the renovation project and the curator of the museum. Or you can reach them through the Berkley Historical Society facebook page.
