[MassHistPres] Solar Canopies

Hi Nancy,
While not in an historic district, there is a solar carport installation on Route 28 in East Falmouth that you may find helpful. You can see it well on google maps and street view -- it's on a commercial property at the southwest corner of Route 28 and Central Ave. The solar canopies are oriented sideways to the street and set back from the road, so to drivers they appear similar to gas station canopies from the mid 1900s.

Take care,
Sarah

West Tisbury HDC has been asked about the possibility of a solar canopy in the Historic District. It would be in the Library parking lot, which is surrounded by gardens, and would cover 14 parking spaces. Very visible. Car batteries could be charged there as well.

Does anyone have any photographs of solar canopies in historic districts they could share, or any experience with requests for this kind of structure. We are a rural community, a small village and I can’t picture how this would look, in general I feel these structures are not attractive, but trying to remain open minded because its solar. Any information/ insight would be welcome.

Thank you, as always.
