Evening!

I’m currently working as the historical consultant for 7 schools seeking state and federal historic rehab tax credits, including 2 in Winchendon near you which is being rehabbed by The Montachsett Veterans Outreach Center for veterans housing.

All 7 of the school projects are being converted into housing, some as low income, some senior, and some market rate. They date in range from late 19th to early 20th centuries. Several of these projects are including additions to add more units and make the projects possible.

A few of the properties were already listed in the National Register but may of them are being listed as part of the tax credit process. The properties only need to be listed in the NR if they are seeking federal credits but only need to be determined eligible for listing in the NR if they seek only state credits.

Hopefully this has been helpful. I’m happy to talk more about rehab options for historic schools.

I am looking for a community that has an in progress reuse rehab project of an old school building that I could use as a model to present to the town of Lunenburg as an alternative to the demolition of our early 20th century primary school.. Presently conveyance of the idea of such a building having any use, despite many past examples of the reuse of old school buildings in surrounding communities, has been unsuccessful. I thought that if I had an example from a city or town that had an old school that was presently in the act of being rehabbed, people might be able to relate to the idea better........if they thought it was a worthwhile idea to save and reuse the old school, then why can't we?
