[MassHistPres] Noise abatement question

Dear List,

Does anyone have any idea what historic homeowners have done to help reduce road noise in their homes?  I’ve had the question from a historic homeowner and they’ve said they plan to replace their windows first—I haven’t replied yet, but I will obviously discourage this!!  When I reply, I’d like to offer other suggestions.  Storms? (I know there was a thread about storm windows recently and the company that used to make the preferred ones is no longer in business…).  Insulation?  Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations.
