Alisa,
The boundaries of an historic district are defined by the specific area approved by voters and recorded with the registry of deeds. While the specific historic district boundaries do not always follow property lines, specific properties to be included in and affected by the district can only be added per your enacted statute. So, irrespective of ownership, if the property adjacent to town hall was not previously in the district, it would not be added to the district simply because it is owned by the adjacent landowner who is in the district.

Hello All,
I am seeking input and advice on a matter at hand in Townsend. Our Town Hall property was approved to be included in our Historic District many years ago by town vote. Then an empty lot abutting the town hall was given to the town hall with hope of it becoming much needed parking space for the town hall. The said lot was given to the town hall over 20 years ago. Recently the BOS gave permission to the recreation department to construct and outdoor fitness park on this land, my question is, would this parcel of land now fall under the oversight of the Historic District Commission.
Thank you all in advance for any insight or advice
respectfully
Alisa Struthers
Chairman
Townsned Historic District Commission
