[MassHistPres] Best practices for stabilization of rail corridor features?

I'm working on an MOA involving a historic rail corridor. Several features
are to be "removed and reset." While some will likely be OK (e.g., granite
mileposts), others are rusted and pretty fragile and I fear they won't
survive removal without stabilization. (tall signal towers.)
Does anyone have best practices for this sort of project that I can follow?
