[MassHistPres] Restoring an old fire engine

 Hi Betty,

I would second Barbara's message on John Gasper in Manchester CT.

I personally own 5 antique fire engines (both hand drawn and motorized) and have restored about 6 or 7 others over the years including some for municipalities.
Depending on what you have I might be able to lend some advice, but when I get stumped, I use John Gasper. He does total frame-off nut & bolt restorations.

Andy Swift in Maine (Firefly Restorations) is very good also, but VERY busy. (Cohasset used him for a couple of hand drawn engines maybe 5 years ago)
My son Joe also works with me on these, he is also on the board of directors for the Worcester Fire Historical Society, they're trying to build a fire museum in Worcester

Is it Westport's 1928 Maxim? (I have 2 identical trucks to that one and have worked on 2 others)
Anyhow, feel free to reach out if you have any direct questions

Don Lennerton, Chair
Leicester Historical Commission
