The Massachusetts Historical Commission has begun the process of updating the Massachusetts State Historic Preservation Plan, 2018-2022, and is seeking your input!

As part of our responsibilities as the State Historic Preservation Office, the MHC must maintain and regularly update a statewide historic preservation plan. This is not a plan for the operations of the MHC, but rather a plan to guide preservation work undertaken by anyone across Massachusetts - local historical commissions, municipal staff, non-profits, and anyone interested in preserving the Commonwealth's historic resources.

There will be several opportunities to provide input for the new plan, to cover the calendar years 2023 to 2028. First, MHC staff will be attending Preservation Massachusetts' upcoming "Cruising the Commonwealth" sessions<https://www.preservationmass.org/ctc>, both virtual and in-person; be sure to visit their website and register to attend. Additional forums hosted by the MHC will be announced for the fall. Second, an online survey will be available later in the summer with questions targeted towards the needs of the historic preservation community in Massachusetts.

Visit our website<https://www.sec.state.ma.us/mhc/mhcpublicinput/publicinputidx.htm> to learn more about the purpose of the state historic preservation plan, view the current plan, and see how you can get involved. Please share this announcement, and future announcements, with anyone you believe might be interested - local commissioners, municipal staff and elected officials, non-profit organizations in your community, and preservation professionals. As noted above, this plan is not just for the MHC - it is for all preservationists in the Commonwealth, so we would like to receive as much input as possible from all corners of the state!

For any questions or to provide additional input, please contact Jennifer Doherty, Local Government Programs Coordinator, at jennifer.doherty at sec.state.ma.us<mailto:jennifer.doherty at sec.state.ma.us>.

Thank you,
Jenn
