Greetings,
The Town of Norton, MA is revisiting it's Historic House and Building Marker Program which was originally established in 2006. The program was developed and administered by the then Norton Historic Commission , however over the last decade the Commission has been inactive. The Norton Historical Society has come forward to revive the original Program and begin once again to move forward with the Historic House and Building Marker initiative. I have been asked to develop it to include more current initiatives. I thought I would start by seeing what other Massachusetts towns are doing now. So much has changed since 2006 with the internet and other regulations.
I would greatly appreciate any info from other Massachusetts towns with similar programs and would welcome any background information including examples of applications, prerequisites for acceptance, rules and regulations, guidelines, web-site examples, pamphlets, examples of Commemorative celebrations, Marker cost and your resource, and anything else that would be included in the Program that I haven't mentioned.
In the past, we used a gentleman from Maine for our wooden Markers but he has since passed. The Committee is thinking of using a composite material that looks like wood but has a longer shelf life. Does anyone do that or is wood the preferred material?
I thank you all in advance for sharing your information and recommendations.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Many thanks,
Sincerely,
Nancy
