[MassHistPres] Slate Roof Substitution Materials

After trying to get a good and somewhat recent Google Maps aerial and
street view of the church I gave up but what I was trying to do is get a
bold/rough assessment of the condition of the current slate roof. While I
have installed several new slate roofs, I have repaired a fair number as
well and agree with the opinion of the Author of "The Slate Roof Bible",
Joseph Jenkins, that most old slate roofs need repair, not replacement.
Without maintenance, slate roofs like all roofs will start to leak but
often this is not cause for an expensive, wholesale replacement of the
entire roof. I couldn't tell what type of slate is on the roof of this
church but if it is Black Monson, it has the capacity to last for 300
years. Even if it is Vermont Slate it could go for 200 plus. My advice is
to get a second opinion first.
