[MassHistPres] Slate Roof Substitution Materials

All,

I took a long lunch break and took a look at the roof.

The main roof is currently asphalt, the back roof is black slate (possibly
Munson) and there are middle sections that appear to be a Slateline asphalt
shingle. All areas of the roof and overall building need attention to some
degree. The slate is the one roof area that can be repaired as opposed to
being replaced and the information on the historic submission forms with a
renovation in 1925 and original building date of 1870/71 would put the
slate roof at either 99 or 153 years old. Please remember and think about
that life expectancy when discussing materials and substitutes.

If we can help the owners of a building like this find the funds (CPA?) and
the right installer we can help a building last for centuries. If the
current back roof (assuming it's a dense slate) needs maintenance and not
replacement then it could have the ability to last 300 - 400 years and the
rest of the structure will be well protected!

Three attached pictures taken March 28, 2024.

Many Thanks,
Garrett Laws
