Hello,

I’m contacting this group for recommendations on an architect that has experience designing within a historic district and understands a Historic District requirements. Here’s the background:

In the small town of Norton, MA the Center is a village green surrounded by many historic residences, a church with a Paul Revere bell and Wheaton College who welcomes visitors coming from the East.

For the last 100 years one of the buildings in the historic center which was next to the UU Church resembled a Cape style with parking on two sides. I believe it was originally a residence plus a Dr office , then a bank and for the last ten years it was a rental for Wheaton College students. It was bought last fall and demolished. The new owner will construct a dual use building with retail on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floor as zoning allows for that. With the church on one side and an old schoolhouse next to the site this proposed 3 story is awkward. He has had one set of plans done and the building looks monstrous, hence my reaching out to this group. I think he can do better.

Any recommendations or suggestions appreciated .

Best,

Nancy
