- On Blackboard, there will be a link to a file for the text Computer Networks by Tanenbaum and Wetherall.
- Please download this file and read pages 1 through 88. Before reading closely, you are advised to skim the material; look at the section and sub-section titles, vocabulary, topic sentences, and pictures and diagrams. Do this to get a general idea of the reading's layout, main ideas, and topics covered. Then, go back and read the material more closely.
- Write a 2-page summary of this reading.
- Note that this summary is a homework assignment and, therefore, is to be considered separate from your usual chapter summaries from the main textbook! As such, it will be a PDF file and be located in your homework folder online.
- Your 2-page summary should meet the following specifications:
- Double-spaced
- 12-point font
- 1-inch margins
- In paragraph form
- To get a broad idea of visual appearance, here is an example: link. (Since this assignment is only a summary, neither works consulted nor endnotes are relevant here.)
- Also, your summary should touch on each of the sections of the reading -- not just the first few! The amount of coverage given to each section in your summary should be roughly proportional to its coverage in the actual reading. (If you followed my suggestion to skim the reading first, this should be much easier.)
- There is no need to consume several lines at the beginning with information like class, date, etc. Your name will be sufficient.
