Homework for this class will be collected electronically by the turnin system. You reach that system on the web by pointing your browser to http://turnin.cs.umb.edu/.
In order to use the system you need a User name
and a
password. We have assigned you a user name, constructed from the
first six characters of your last name followed by characters from
your first name to make up a String of length at most eight. Here are
some examples:
Full name turnin User name Kent, Clark kentclar Kennedy, John kennedjo Liu, Wei liuweiNote that turnin user names are all lower case.
All students start out with the same turnin password, which your instructor will tell you in class.
Your first task is to change your password. Choose a good one. That's difficult, because there are conflicting requirements. A password should be easy to remember and hard to guess. Your password should
You should not use the same password for multiple systems (for example, at multiple ecommerce sites) nor should you write down all your passwords in some obvious semipublic place.
Never tell anyone your password. Not your friend. Not your partner. Not your instructor. Not your dog.
Most people do not follow all these sensible guidelines. Don't be like most people.
To change your password, connect to the turnin system and click on the section you attend. Enter your turnin user name and current password in the fields provided. Then follow instructions. You will be asked to enter your new password twice, just to prove (the first time) that you remember it. Do type it twice, don't just cut and paste.
Do not log in to the Turnin demo, even if the turnin system will let
you.
Do not log in to cs119, even if you are in cs119, even if the turnin
system will let you.
Enter the folder in which your work should go. For homework 1 that's
hw1
.
Indicate how many files you will submit. For cs110 hw1 that will be
two if you are submitting both required files at the same time:
memo.txt
and Bank.java
.
The system will prompt you to browse for the files on your computer.
After your submission is complete you will see a confirmation page in you browser, and the system will send you confirming email as well.\
CLOSE THE BROSWER . If you just visit other pages then the next time you (or anyone else) returns to turnin you will still be logged in. That's unfortunate - we are working on fixing it.
