General Education Distribution Requirement
Overview
One of the requirements for graduation is taking 9 courses in selected
from different academic areas
- Arts - 1 course
- Humanities - 1 course
- Social and Behavioral Sciences - 2 courses
- Natural Sciences - 1 course
- Natural Sciences or Mathematics - 3 courses
- World Languages or World Culture - 1 course
Selecting Courses to Meet the Requirement
Only certain courses can be used to satisfy the General Education Distribution Requirement.
Any course you select to the meet the requirement must be selected from a list of
approved courses for that subject area.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics Courses
Notice that there are two listing involving Natural Sciences
- Natural Sciences - 1 course
- Natural Sciences or Mathematics - 3 courses
This means that one course must come from the Natural Sciences list
and three courses must come from either the Natural Sciences list
or the Mathematics list.
The Mathematics list includes some courses taught by the CS Department.
You have to be very careful if you want to use courses in Mathematics
list, since, for various reason only the following courses
can be used
- CS 110
- CS 210
- IT 115
- MATH 141
- MATH 146
With this limited list of options, most IT students simply take 4
courses from the Natural Sciences list.
