Tet in Boston is an annual Vietnamese New Year festival. This year I volunteered at the
community festival along with the New England Intercollegiate Vietnamese Students Association.
The event was held in the Seaport District area and thousands of people attended. The festival
provided many unique performances and insight into Vietnamese culture.
This was the first collaboration between Umass Bostons' Vietnamese Students Association and the East
Boston Community Soup Kitchen. Myself and three others were given a great opportunity to serve food to
those who were in need. We were able to provide assistance and really got to know some of the people
who came by regularly.
Every year, Umass Bostons' Sojourn Collegiate Ministry holds a Rise Against Hunger event where students
gather for a few hours to help pack meals for those in need across the globe. I had the honor of participating
in this amazing event and with the combined efforts of 30+ students, we were able to make over 10,000 meal
packages.
