Class 3 Exercise

Log in to users3

Run an SSH client
Run putty.exe if you have a PC or Terminal if you have a Mac.
Enter your password

Create an hw directory for your homework assignments

Go to your home directory
```
cd
```
Go to your it116 directory
```
cd  it116
```
Create an hw directory
```
mkdir  hw
```
Check that the directory was created
```
ls
```

Create a directory for this exercise

Go to your home directory
```
cd
```
Go to your it116 directory
```
cd  it116
```
Go to your ex directory
```
cd ex
```
Make sure you are in your ex directory
```
pwd
```
If you are not in /home/UNIX_ID/it116/ex, see me.
Create a directory for this exercise
```
mkdir  ex3
```
Check that the directory was created
```
ls
```
Go to this new directory
```
cd ex3
```

Practice with interactive mode

Enter Python interactive mode
```
python3
```

Print the the name of our University

>>> print("University of Massachusetts at Boston")

Print our street address
```
>>> print("100 Morrissey Boulevard")
```
Print our city and state
```
>>> print("Boston, Massachusetts")
```
Print our zip code
```
>>> print("02125-3393")
```
Write a comment
```
>>> # Hello world!
```
Nothing prints because the Python interpreter ignores everything after #.
Create a variable
```
>>> number = 20
```
Print the value of the variable you just created
```
>>> print(number)
```
Change the value of the variable
```
>>> number = number + 1
```
Print the new value of this variable
```
>>> print(number)
```
Quit interactive mode

exit()

Create the script ex3.py
```
nano  ex3.py
```
Enter the following text into the script file

Run this script
```
python3  ex3.py
```

You should see

a + b + c =  21
a * b + c =  40
a * b * c =  300
c - b - a =  -1
a * b / c =  3.0

Running my test script on your script
