[MassHistPres] 40b Shaker Hills Golf Course

Greetings,

You may have heard that Harvard¹s Shaker Village is under threat from an
enormous 40b adjacent housing development: 140 single-family homes, flanking
the historical district like a claw. The actual development would be outside
the district, but abutting it. The property to be developed is currently the
Shaker Hills Golf Course. This housing development would change a small
country road, with woodlands on either side, with ticky-tacky houses, and
would dramatically increase the traffic along this active pedestrian route.

Any thoughts about ways to fight this, or at least slow it down, from a
historical preservation standpoint? Please, spare me the ³losing battle²
comments.
