Wright-Locke-Hamilton Farm: A Gem of Our Past, Key to Our Future

You are invited to a dynamic presentation about the history, current issues,
and future of the enchanting Wright-Locke-Hamilton Farm. Occupying now 20
acres of land in Winchester at the borders of Lexington and Arlington , this
beautiful property has been a homestead and working farm since the mid
1600’s and is one of only a handful of farms remaining within the 128
beltway. The farm was home to the Wrights, whose forbears founded Woburn ,
their son Philemon Wright who founded the Capital region of Canada , and for
175 years, the Locke family, prominent in the area since colonial times and
founders of Arlington . The farm and its buildings are an intact, living
exhibition of our pre-industrial, agrarian way of life. Contiguous with
conservation areas in Winchester and Lexington , the farm represents an
extremely valuable regional resource. Recently, the town of Winchester voted
to buy the farm and save it from major development, and has just begun the
process of deciding its future use balanced with a need to reduce the debt
incurred to purchase it—with discussions of a community farm, walking
trails, historical and environmental education center, farm-based
restaurant, and historical exhibit. The evening will feature a slideshow
presentation about the rich history of the farm as well as information about
its critical influence on local ecology and geology.

Come learn about the important role of Wright-Locke-Hamilton Farm in our
natural and cultural heritage. Be inspired by a vision of the farm as an
enduring complement of education, recreation, and community-based food
production--important components of a livable future for our children and
grandchildren. Free and open to the public. Free but donations gratefully
accepted to help preserve the Farm.
