The "I Spy" program offered at the Bryant Homestead, a Property of The
Trustees of Reservations, integrates all aspects of this National
Historic Landmark property: the landscape, historic house, farming
activities and the poetry of William Cullen Bryant.

Children, ages 3 -9, are given a backpack filled with hands-on
activities which require them to explore the property. A few of the
varied activities include noting architectural features of this
sprawling Victorian cottage, leaf identification, answering questions
about the barn and writing their own poetry while sitting on the
Homestead's porch.

Last year was the first it was offered and it met with great success.
For the first time (outside of special events), the Homestead was able
to attract young families on a regular basis.

The description used to publicize the program is:
I Spy! (Ages 3-9)
Be a detective! Discover the Homestead's secrets on this self-guided
walk using a hands-on "spy pack". All children must be accompanied by
an adult. Members: Child $4. Nonmembers: Child $6. Special family
rate.

Dear List Serve members

Please identify examples of MA or NE 'model educational programs' that
actively celebrate both historic buildings and their grounds?

Names or contact information would be most helpful! Thank you!
