November 2 & 3, 2007
Call for Papers & Presentations
 
The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, Rhode Island College & The
Slater Mill Historic Site will hold a Conference on November 2 & 3, 2007 focusing on early
American Industrialization and the development of the Mill Village, entitled “Industrialization:
Transformation & Power in Our Landscapes, Our Lives & Our Laws”.  Topics for panel discussions
include:

“The American Industrial Revolution – Why Here?”

“Paternalism, Immigration & the American Dream”

“Industrial Workers in Industrial Landscapes: Labor & Class – Then & Now”

“Planned Communities: Mirroring Our Social Climate and Redesigning Our Physical World”.

We invite anyone interested to submit a one page abstract of their paper / presentation relating
to any of the above topics to Ranger Chuck Arning at chuck_arning at nps.gov  or call Ranger Arning
